Day 3 - Monday October 20th Before we set off for Kashan in the afternoon, we visit the Golestan Palace and Gardens, built by Nasser al-Din Shah and home to the Qajar and Pahlavi rulers from the mid1800s onwards. Open-fronted halls with alabaster thrones, elevated terraces overlooking the gardens and fountains and the palace itself, a mixture of European and Persian architectural styles with gob-smacking mirror and tile work in its interior.
Kashan here we come...
The bus ride to Kashan turns out to be an uncomplicated and relaxing affair with Iranians asking us where we are from, smiling a lot and being generally very helpful in getting us to our hotel.
We have dinner at the Manoucheri House, a restored traditional Kashan house. As soon as we leave the restaurant we get lost in a maze of old town alleys. No worries... an Afghan guy we ask for directions, gets off his motorbike and walks us to the main road. I have never visited a country where people are so friendly and helpful without wanting anything in return.
